Austin’s security work is shaped by two things: technology tenants with opinions about their own networks, and a construction rate that means half the buildings we work in did not exist a few years ago.

Technology tenants change the conversation

On campuses through North Austin and the corridor toward Round Rock, the customer usually has a capable IT team. That is an advantage, not an obstacle — but it means the security system has to arrive with a proper network design, a VLAN plan, documented addressing and a firmware policy, not just a box of cameras.

Cloud-managed platforms land well here, and the honest conversation is about upload bandwidth and retention cost rather than whether cloud is a good idea.

Semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sites in the region bring cleanroom access, contractor control and a change-management process that has to be respected — you do not get to improvise on a live fab.

New construction and fit-out

A large share of Austin work is new build or fit-out, which is the cheapest possible time to do it properly: pathways, backboxes, door prep and conduit put in during construction cost a fraction of what they cost afterwards.

We would rather be in the coordination meetings early than be asked to core-drill a finished lobby. Where we are brought in late, we say plainly what the retrofit will cost versus what it would have cost.

Mixed-use property — ground-floor retail under residential or office — needs clear boundaries between whose system is whose, and that is a design decision, not a wiring one.
