Kaba Locks and Access Hardware in Texas
If your building has Kaba locks on it, you are looking at a brand that no longer stands alone. Kaba merged with Dorma, and the combined company is dormakaba; the product families most people still call Kaba are made and supported under that name. What the Kaba name usually refers to
- Simplex mechanical pushbutton locks — no batteries, no wiring, one combination changed by hand. Still the right answer for a door that has to be restricted but will never justify a cable pull.
- E-Plex electronic pushbutton locks — standalone battery locks with multiple user codes and an audit trail, programmed at the door or through software.
- Ilco — keys, blanks, cylinders and key machines, plus hospitality lock hardware.
- Kaba Mas — high-security combination locks used on containers, vaults and rooms with government or financial requirements.

Why standalone locks still make sense on the Gulf Coast
Texas facilities run a great many doors that will never be worth wiring — pump houses, meter rooms, storage buildings, roof access, contractor sheds and outbuildings scattered across a fenced site. Along the Houston Ship Channel and at industrial sites east of the city, that describes dozens of openings per plant, most of them exposed to heat, humidity and washdown. A mechanical pushbutton lock has no board to corrode and no battery to die, which is why it keeps getting specified for the doors that have to work during and after a hurricane. When a storm takes utility power down for several days, the mechanical openings are the ones still operating.
When to move a Kaba door onto the network
Standalone locks carry a real cost: every code change is a walk across the site, and there is no live record of who went where. Once a site passes a handful of controlled doors, or has meaningful turnover, the math flips toward networked access control. Medical office buildings around the Texas Medical Center reach that point on med rooms and file rooms. Dallas-Fort Worth distribution buildings reach it when contractor access and shift changes make code rotation unworkable. Austin and San Antonio offices usually get there when they want one credential to work across several buildings. The practical outcome is normally a split: mechanical hardware stays on the outlying doors, and the interior doors move to a controller and reader.
Service, repair and takeover
We rekey and repair existing Kaba hardware, replace failed battery locks, fit current dormakaba equivalents into existing door preps where the prep allows it, and take over sites where nobody on staff knows the codes anymore. A building that has changed hands two or three times usually has Kaba, Ilco and two or three other manufacturers on the same floor; we inventory what is there and give you one plan instead of a pile of part numbers.
